Carton Counts and Unit Counts
The number of cartons received does not establish the number of saleable units inside them. Keep carton, inner-pack and retail-unit counts distinct.
Practical Considerations
Record the outer count first, then compare the contents with the packing information and order. A case may contain several inner packs with their own count.
Suggested Procedure
- Record cartons received.
- Check inner-pack quantities.
- Reconcile complete saleable units by product.
Illustrative Example
Four cartons containing six retail packs each represent twenty-four saleable packs. If each pack is a set, its individual components should not be counted as separate saleable units unless that is the agreed format.
Points to Check
Note mixed cartons explicitly. A total carton count can match while the distribution between products is still wrong.
