Reviewing a Product Sample
A sample review should follow a written list of questions about the product being considered. Otherwise it can become a general impression that is difficult to compare with the delivery.
Practical Considerations
Identify the exact version received and keep it separate from saleable merchandise. Review dimensions, contents, finish, packaging and instructions before considering any functional evaluation appropriate to the item.
Suggested Procedure
- Label the sample with its source and date.
- Compare it with the agreed specification.
- Record observations and questions with photographs where useful.
Illustrative Example
For a packing-cube set, review every piece and zipper, not only the largest cube. A missing small pouch can change the contents of every retail unit in the order.
Points to Check
A sample is evidence about that sample. Obtain agreement on the production specification and any substitution policy rather than assuming all future units will be identical.
