Reviewing Sell-Through for a Trial

Sell-through compares units sold during a defined review period with a clearly stated quantity available for that review.

Practical Considerations

Use a consistent method and record additions, returns and stock transfers. A simple trial calculation can use units sold divided by units available during the period, but the inputs must describe the same scope.

Suggested Procedure

  1. Choose the review dates.
  2. Record starting stock and additions.
  3. Compare units sold with the available quantity.

Illustrative Example

If thirty units were available during a trial and eighteen sold, the simple sell-through result is sixty percent. Record the period and any display changes before comparing it with another item.

Points to Check

The result is descriptive, not a forecast. A product's future sales can differ when its price, placement, availability or customer demand changes.
